5. Casting
5.2 Casting devices
5.3 Casting Foxtel
5.4 How to start casting
5.5 Google Nest and voice commands
5.1 About casting
Casting refers to a group of devices that enable a customer to choose and stream content from a device like a mobile phone or tablet and then display the video from that device on a larger screen like a TV.
5.2 Casting devices
A casting device receives a video stream from a source device, usually a mobile phone or tablet. The most common are Google Chromecast and Apple TV, however many other companies produce their own casting devices.
The Foxtel Now Box has an in-built Google Chromecast device. Many TVs and other devices like Blu-ray players and PDRs (Personal Digital Recorders) also have in-built Google Chromecast, so customers will need to check with their manufacturers to see if their device supports casting (for more information, see Overview - Foxtel Now Box).
5.3 Casting Foxtel
Foxtel customers can use Foxtel Go to cast their Foxtel TV service. Foxtel Now customers can also cast live TV and On Demand content from the Foxtel Now app.
Customers can stream on 2 devices at the same time, even when casting via Chromecast or AirPlay. Note: Foxtel currently supports casting on Google Chromecast and Apple TV devices.
5.4 How to start casting
To start casting, customers need to:
- be a Foxtel Now customer or have Multiscreen as part of their Foxtel TV subscription
- have all devices connected to the same WiFi network
- have either the Foxtel Go or Foxtel Now app installed on a mobile phone or tablet
- have a compatible TV/media player with Chromecast built in, Apple AirPlay or a Google Chromecast connected to their TV.
When customers are able to cast, the casting or Apple TV logo will appear on the Foxtel Go or Foxtel Now app. Customers can tap the logo to display a list of eligible devices to cast to. The video stream will be sent to the selected casting device and the Foxtel Go or Foxtel Now app will behave as a remote.
5.5 Google Nest and voice commands
Voice commands are available for customers accessing Foxtel Now and Foxtel Go via a Google Nest device. Google Nest devices allow customers to cast their Foxtel Go/Now service to their TV and control it using voice commands.
To do this, residential customers will need to have a Google Nest device and a TV with built-in Chromecast, or a Chromecast device such as the Foxtel Now Box. Customers also need to link their Foxtel account to their Google Nest device so they can use it to cast Foxtel content to their TV.

6.3 Parental controls
Foxtel Go users can use the parental controls to block or restrict content by classification. Any restricted live channels or On Demand programs will require entry of the customer's PIN before they can be viewed. When a classification is restricted, all higher classifications are automatically restricted as well.
These settings must be changed for each Foxtel Go device, and are not affected by changes made on a customer's STBs (Set Top Boxes) (for Foxtel TV customers) or Foxtel Now Apps (for Foxtel Now customers).
To change parental controls in Foxtel Go, advise the customer to:
- Open the Foxtel Go App.
- Click the menu icon in the top left corner of the app and then click settings (if you're on a tablet, the settings icon will be in the top right corner of the app).

7. Watching Foxtel Go through a VPN
Foxtel Go cannot be viewed through a VPN (Virtual Private Network), so customers will need to disable any VPN being used on their device to view Foxtel Go.

8. FAQs
If a customer starts watching on their set top box, can they continue watching on Foxtel Go?
No, customers can only continue watching shows between their registered Foxtel Go devices, not between their STB and Foxtel Go.
Can all customers watch HD content in HD through Foxtel Go?
Yes, all customers can access HD content (based on the channels they subscribe to) when they view via Foxtel Go, even if they don't subscribe to HD in their Foxtel TV subscription. However, customers will need be connected to WiFi and use a compatible device to watch HD content.
Are there ads on the Kids content in Foxtel Go?
There are regular ad breaks on Kids channels, but we make sure these ads comply with the requirements set out by ACMA. (Australian Communications and Media Authority)
When watching On Demand content, 1 ad may play at the start and/or end of a program (a maximum of 2 ads per program). Unlike regular ads on our channels, On Demand content only shows 1 ad at a time, not a group of ads.
Does Foxtel Go offer parental controls?
Yes, Foxtel Go allows you to restrict programs from both live TV and On Demand by classification. Once you select a classification to restrict, you'll need to enter your PIN to watch a program with that or a higher classification.
If a customer can't log into Foxtel Go and receives AF4013 - App launch has failed error?
This means that the device the customer is using can't run Foxtel Go because their operating system isn't supported. It usually happens after a new Android or IOS update.
