Overview - Free to Air (FTA) via internet (IP) channels

1. What are FTA via internet (IP) channels?

Free to air channels (also known as FTA) are television channels normally accessed through a satellite or through a free to air antenna. Foxtel customers can access FTA channels in the Electronic program guide (EPG) via their satellite (for limited channels) or a broader range via a connected TV antenna.


Foxtel currently offers the following FTA via internet (IP) channels:

SBS FTA via internet (IP)

  • SBS - channel 104/204
  • SBS Viceland - channel 170/270
  • SBS World Movies -  channel 433/432
  • SBS Food - channel 171
  • NITV - channel 172
  • SBS World Watch - channel 644


ABC FTA via internet (IP)

  • ABC - channel 102/202
  • ABC Kids/TV Plus – channel 152
  • ABC News – channel 642
  • ABC ME – channel 723


Nine FTA via internet (IP)

  • Nine - channel 100/209
  • 9Gem – channel 164/264
  • 9Go – channel 162
  • 9Life – channel 163


Seven FTA via internet (IP)

  • Channel 7 (Channel 107/207)​
  • 7Two (Channel 156)​
  • 7mate (Channel 157/257)​
  • 7flix (Channel 158)​
  • 7Bravo (Channel 159)

Ten FTA via internet (IP)
  • Channel 10 (Channel 110/210)​
  • 10drama (Channel 166)​
  • 10comedy (Channel 167)​
  • Nickelodeon (Channel 168)

2. What is the benefit to customers?

FTA via internet (IP) channels provide greater flexibility to customers who cannot access SBS, ABC, Nine or Seven channels via Satellite or Locally (through a free-to-air antenna). iQ4 and iQ5 customers will no longer require a satellite dish or an antenna to watch free-to-air channels, they have access to them through the EPG.

3. What do customers need to access FTA via internet (IP) channels?
All FTA via internet (IP) channels will require an internet connected iQ4 or iQ5 set top box.

Note: Some FTA via internet (IP) channels may require the customer to login to the relevant FTA On Demand app to access the channels.

SBS FTA via internet (IP): Login to the SBS On Demand App is required to access the SBS FTA via internet (IP) channels.
ABC FTA via internet (IP): Login to the ABC iview app is not required to access the ABC FTA via internet (IP) channels.
Nine FTA via internet (IP): Login to the 9Now On Demand app is required to access the Nine FTA via internet (IP) channels.
Seven FTA via internet (IP): Login to the 7plus app is required to access the Seven FTA via internet (IP) channels.
Ten FTA via internet (IP): Login to the 10 app is required to access the Ten FTA via internet (IP) channels.

4. Pausing, recording and rewinding on FTA via internet (IP) channels
Pausing, recording and rewinding are not available on any FTA via internet (IP) channels. If customers attempt to record, pause or rewind on any FTA via internet (IP) channels, they will see a message saying this function is not available for this channel.

5. Manually assigning FTA via internet (IP) channels
Customers who already have access to SBS, ABC, Nine and Seven channels over satellite or via a free-to-air antenna will not be affected, however if customers wish to they can manually assign FTA via internet (IP) delivered channels on the Local Channel Sources page via the settings menu on their iQ4 or iQ5 box. If customers ask for assistance with this please provide the below instructions:

  1. Using your remote, Go to Home and scroll left to Settings
  2. Select Local Channels
  3. Select Local Channel Sources
  4. Customers can then choose how SBS, ABC, Nine or Seven channels should be delivered:
    a.    SBS, ABC, Nine and Seven SD delivery method is = Internet (IP)
    b.    SBS, ABC, Nine and Seven HD delivery method is = Terrestrial (free-to-air)

6. Parental Controls on FTA via internet (IP) channels
Parental controls are available on all SBS, ABC, Nine and Seven FTA via internet (IP) channels.

SBS FTA via internet (IP) channels
If a customer has parental controls (PIN) set for programs M-rated or above:

  • When they tune to an SBS FTA via internet (IP) channel and a M-rated program is playing, they will be prompted for their PIN.
  • If a customer tunes to a SBS FTA via internet (IP) channel when a PG-rated program is playing and this program ends, then a M-rated program commences, the customer will not be prompted for a PIN.


ABC FTA via internet (IP) channels
If a customer has parental controls (PIN) set for programs M-rated or above:

  • When they tune to an ABC FTA via internet (IP) channel and a M-rated program is playing, they will be prompted for their PIN.
  • If a customer tunes to an ABC FTA via internet (IP) channel when a PG-rated program is playing and this program ends, and a M-rated program commences, the customer will be prompted for a PIN.

Nine FTA via internet (IP) channels
If a customer has parental controls (PIN) set for programs M-rated or above:

  • When they tune to an Nine FTA via internet (IP) channel and a M-rated program is playing, they will be prompted for their PIN.
  • If a customer tunes to an Nine FTA via internet (IP) channel when a PG-rated program is playing and this program ends, and a M-rated program commences, the customer will be prompted for a PIN.

Seven FTA via internet (IP) channels
If a customer has parental controls (PIN) set for programs M-rated or above:

  • When they tune to a Seven FTA via internet (IP) channel and a M-rated program is playing, they will be prompted for their PIN.
  • If a customer tunes to a Seven FTA via internet (IP) channel when a PG-rated program is playing and this program ends, then a M-rated program commences, the customer will be prompted for a PIN.

Ten FTA via internet (IP) channels
If a customer has parental controls (PIN) set for programs M-rated or above:

  • When they tune to a Ten FTA via internet (IP) channel and a M-rated program is playing, they will be prompted for their PIN.
  • If a customer tunes to a Ten FTA via internet (IP) channel when a PG-rated program is playing and this program ends, then a M-rated program commences, the customer will be prompted for a PIN.

7. FTA via internet (IP) channels we offer 

7.1. SBS
A free SBS On Demand account is required to access the SBS FTA via internet (IP) channels. 

By logging into the SBS On Demand app, the below SBS FTA via internet (IP) channels become available in the Foxtel TV Guide for customers to view outside of the SBS On Demand app.

  • SBS - channel 104/204
  • SBS Viceland - channel 170/270
  • SBS World Movies - channel 433/432
  • SBS Food - channel 171
  • NITV - channel 172
  • SBS World Watch - channel 644

Note: Closed captions are not available on the SBS FTA via internet (IP) channels.

7.2. ABC
ABC iview is not required to access the ABC FTA via internet (IP) channels.

By creating a free ABC account, the below ABC FTA via internet (IP) channels become available in the Foxtel TV Guide for customers to view outside of the ABC iview app.

  • ABC - channel 102/202
  • ABC Kids/TV Plus – channel 152
  • ABC News – channel 642
  • ABC ME – channel 723

Note: Closed captions are available on the ABC FTA via internet (IP) channels.

7.3. Nine
9Now is required to access the Nine FTA via internet (IP) channels.

By logging into the 9Now On Demand app, the below Nine FTA via internet (IP) channels become available in the Foxtel TV Guide for customers to view outside of the 9Now On Demand app.

  • Nine - channel 100/209
  • 9Gem – channel 164/264
  • 9Go – channel 162
  • 9Life – channel 163

Note: Closed captions are not available on the Nine FTA via internet (IP) channels.

7.4. Seven
7plus is required to access the Seven FTA via internet (IP) channels. 

By logging into the 7plus app, the below Seven FTA via internet (IP) channels become available in the Foxtel TV Guide for customers to view outside of the 7Plus app.
 

  • Channel 7 (Channel 107/207)​
  • 7Two (Channel 156)​
  • 7mate (Channel 157/257)​
  • 7flix (Channel 158)​
  • 7Bravo (Channel 159)

Note: Closed captions are not available on the Seven FTA via internet (IP) channels.

7.5. Ten
10 is required to access the Ten FTA via internet (IP) channels.

By logging into the 10 app, the below Ten FTA via internet (IP) channels become available in the Foxtel TV Guide for customers to view outside of the 10 app.

  • Channel 10 (Channel 110/210)​
  • 10drama (Channel 166)​
  • 10comedy (Channel 167)​
  • Nickelodeon (Channel 168)

Note: Closed captions are not available on Nickelodeon channel.
