1. Description

Follow this procedure to lead a customer through the set up process for a new WiFi Extender.

1. Confirm WPS support

1. Ask the customer if their modem supports WPS (WiFi Protected Setup).

 Note: A customer may be able to connect by WPS if their modem has a WPS button. WPS allows customers to connect to their WiFi network without entering their login details.

If...	Then...
the customer's modem supports WPS	go to task 2.
the customer's modem does not support WPS	go to task 3.

2. Set up a WiFi Extender using WPS
Lead the customer through the following instructions:

1. On the WiFi Extender, make sure the Access Point/Extender switch is set to Extender.
2. Connect your WiFi Extender to a power point in the same room as your modem.
3. Wait for the power indicator light to turn solid green (this may take up to 2 minutes). If the power indicator light does not turn on, press the Power On/Off button on the side of the extender.
4. Once the power indicator light is solid green, press the WPS button on the side of WiFi Extender. The WPS indicator light will now blink.
5. Within 2 minutes, press the WPS button on your modem.

If...	Then...
the router link indicator light lights up	continue below.
the router link indicator light does not light up	a. Try again from step 2.   b. If the issue is still not resolved, go to task 3.

 

6. Unplug the WiFi extender and move it to a power point roughly halfway between your modem and your device and then plug it into that power point.

If...	Then...
the router link indicator light is green or orange	continue below.
the router link indicator light is red	move the WiFi Extender to a power point closer to your modem.   Continue below.

 

7. On your WiFi-enabled device (e.g. Mobile phone, laptop), open the WiFi settings and connect to the WiFi Extender's network.

 Important: The network name will be the same as the modem network name with '_2GEXT' or '_5GEXT' on the end. The network password is the same.

 

8. Test your device in an area that had poor WiFi signal.

If...	Then...
the device works well in the area that had poor WiFi signal	end of procedure.
the area still has poor WiFi signal	Watching the indicator lights on the WiFi Extender, try to move the WiFi Extender until the WiFi coverage improves.   End of procedure.

           
3. Connect to the WiFi Extender
Lead the customer through the following instructions:

1. Advise the customer before starting that they will need a device (e.g. computer, laptop, mobile phone, tablet) that supports WiFi or ethernet to set up their WiFi Extender.
2. On the WiFi Extender, make sure the Access Point/Extender switch is set to Extender.
3. Connect the WiFi Extender to a power point.
4. Wait for the power indicator light to turn solid green (this may take up to 2 minutes). If the power indicator light does not turn on, press the Power On/Off button on the side of the extender.
5. Once the power indicator light is solid green, connect the WiFi Extender to your device by:

• using an ethernet cable
• connecting via WiFi to the NETGEAR_EXT WiFi network.

 Go to task 4.  

4. Set up a WiFi Extender using the Netgear installation assistant

1. Launch a web browser on your device.
2. Go to the website www.mywifiext.net. The site will open on the New Extender Setup page.
3. Click the NEW EXTENDER SETUP button.
4. Create an account by completing all fields and clicking the NEXT button.
5. Click the CONTINUE button.
6. A list of available WiFi networks will be displayed. Select the WiFi network you want to extend.
7. In the Password (Network Key) field, type the existing WiFi network password and then click the NEXT button.
8. Create a new extended network by choosing a network name and password.

 Note: Advise the customer this is the network that has been extended and they should use a different name to their existing WiFi network to avoid confusion.

 

9. Click the NEXT button and wait for the page to display a list of new WiFi Extender networks (this may take up to 1 minute).
10. Connect your device to the WiFi Extender network that you just created.
11. Click the CONTINUE button, and then click the CONTINUE button on the next page.
12. A message will display confirming that the extender is set up. Click the NEXT button.
13. The registration page will now display. Either complete the fields and click the FINISH button or click the Skip Registration link, either of which will complete the set up.
14. Unplug the extender and move it to a power point roughly halfway between your modem and the area with poor WiFi signal.
15. Test your device in an area that had poor WiFi signal.

If...	Then...
the device works well in the area that had poor WiFi signal	end of procedure.
the area still has poor WiFi signal	Watching the indicator lights on the WiFi Extender, try to move the WiFi Extender until the WiFi coverage improves.   End of procedure.
